3 Team-Building Icebreakers that Create AHA! Moments

In our recent blog posts, we explored the importance of creating and celebrating those "AHA!" moments in the classroom. Now, let’s shift gears and explore how we can seamlessly integrate this concept with the use of icebreakers.

Icebreakers are commonly utilized to help team members get to know one another, build camaraderie, and foster a positive, productive working environment. However, their benefits can extend far beyond just breaking the ice. They can be effectively employed at three key stages: BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER an event. In this blog, we’ll introduce three innovative ways to use a BRAVOZONE game to create those unforgettable AHA! moments for your team.

So, whether you're a team leader, manager, or simply someone interested in enhancing teamwork within your group, these icebreakers will offer a fun and engaging method to break down barriers and promote meaningful collaboration.

BEFORE: Setting the Stage
(Self-Paced Assessment Game)

Kick off your training session by sending out a pre-class survey built with a SPARK game. This self-paced quiz allows you to gather valuable insights about your team’s interests, preferences, likes, and even dislikes. The aim here is to personalize the experience before everyone steps into the classroom.

WHAT TO DO:
Have participants share their hobbies, favorite foods, and any other fun facts they’re comfortable revealing. I.e., coffee or tea, cat or dog, beach vacation or mountain retreat, If you had a billion dollars for one day, what would you do?...etc. After your students complete the survey, click to generate a printout of the results. Then, when you start your session, group them into teams according to their shared interests.

WHY IT WORKS:
When your team members see familiar faces or shared interests, it ignites an instant sense of camaraderie that carries through the session. Personalizing your training like this makes everyone feel valued and heard right from the start, setting a positive tone for the event.

DURING: Keeping the Energy Up
(Instructor-led Game)

Once you have your students grouped into teams, it’s time to unleash the excitement of a BRAVOZONE game! With 10 different games at your fingertips, you can tailor your approach to fit the dynamics of your classroom. For this example, let’s dive into one of our favorites - Who Wants to Be a Billionaire. This game draws contestants into an atmosphere of competition and urgency, creating a unique environment where students can learn while experiencing the thrill of climbing the proverbial ladder!

WHAT TO DO:
Craft a quiz with multiple-choice questions that range from easy to challenging. These can cover anything from company history to general knowledge or quirky facts about your colleagues. I.e., What year was our company founded?, Which of our team members once climbed Mount Kilimanjaro?, Who in our team has a pet llama?...etc.

WHY IT WORKS:
One of the brilliant aspects of this game is its ability to be played in teams. When students work together to contest the question, they learn to communicate effectively, build teamwork skills, and support one another in the pursuit of answers. It’s not just about individual success; it’s about working collectively towards a common goal! Team building has never been this enjoyable.

It’s all about making the connection between fun and learning!

AFTER: Reflecting and Growing
(Instructor-led Game)

Now that you’ve played a few icebreaker games, it’s time to gauge how well your attendees know the material by introducing the game CONFIDENCE. This can be played with an instructor or as a self-paced activity after class. Either way, the objective remains the same: to find out what they know and how well they’re understanding the material.

This immediate assessment allows you to see your progress in real-time and adjust your learning approach accordingly. It’s like having a personal coach right there with you, guiding you every step of the way.

WHAT TO DO:
Consider these “challenging” questions:

  • Which concepts or tasks were particularly difficult for me?

  • Were there any moments when I felt overwhelmed or confused?

  • What skills do I think I need more practice with to improve?

Consider these “excel” questions:

  • What topics did I grasp quite easily?

  • Were there moments during my learning where I felt confident and capable?

  • What strategies or approaches worked well for me?

WHY IT WORKS:
Based on the feedback from the game, you can tailor your study plans to focus on areas that need extra attention. If you noticed that certain topics were a breeze, that’s great! Use that “confidence” to reflect on where you shined as a trainer and can ultimately provide motivation and reinforcement for your own learning.
